Association
was fortunate to attract some of the best and most capable persons
to head it as President among them were, known personalities
some of whom later rose to become Union Cabinet Ministers,
Chief Ministers and one even to the post of Prime Minister
of India.

Dr.
Sushila Nayyar (1955-1957)
An associate of Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi,
she was a qualified and experienced doctor. She took an
active part in the country's freedom struggle and after
Independence, she held different portfolios in the Union
Cabinet as a Minister. |

Mr.
Inder Kumar Gujral (1965-1968)
Then a Vice President of New Delhi Municipal Committee,
he willingly took over the helm of the Association, having
a deaf younger brother in Mr. Satish Gujral, an illustrious
artist and architect. He was able to help Association in
diverse ways. Subsequently he was elevated to be country's
Ambassador, a Cabinet Minister and ended his scintillating
career as the Prime Minister of India.

Ms
Surrinder Saini (1968-70)
A prominent social worker associated with Mr. Guljari
Lal Nanda, then Home Minister of India, Ms Surrinder Saini
has for long been associated with Bharat Sevak Samaj and,
therefore, closely associated with social welfare work.
She headed Delhi State Social Welfare Advisory Board for
several years. She headed the Association as President for
two years. She now heads All India Federation of the Deaf
as President. She has been conferred the Padma Bhushan Award
in recognition of her services in the field of social welfare. |

Mrs.
Sheila Dikshit (1974-1976)
Nowadays Chief Minister of Delhi, Mrs. Sheila Dikshit, headed
the Association during the years 1974-1976. It was during
this period that Association made all the preparations for
its Silver Jubilee which was celebrated with pomp and show.
It was fitting that at the valedictory function of the Golden
Jubilee celebrations of the Association, she should be the
Chief Guest. As the Chief Minister of Delhi, she is giving
extra attention to the welfare of the deaf. |
