Education
& Training
The
availability of grant became possible because Association had
restarted educational and training activities in the year 1990.
These activities included Sunday School (at 2 Jain Mandir Road,
New Delhi), Evening' classes at Association's office, training
in secretarial practices, e.g. type writing, office procedures,
rules and regulations etc. also a quantum jump in rehabilitational
efforts.
Employment assistance was extended in a big way to all the Deaf
persons whether members or not, by sponsoring their candidature.
Positive results were achieved. Assistance for settlement of personal
grievances of members, who can not fend for themselves, was given.
Games and sports were regularly organised, national days celebrated,
cases of members were taken up with Chief Commissioner of Disabilities
and relief obtained.
During this period Association was able to secure assistance from
Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) to start Computer Training for the
Deaf and a regular Rajiv Gandhi Training Centre for the Deaf was
inaugurated on 07--04-97 by 8hri Pulok Chatterjee, Secretary RGF
which trained a number of deaf, all of whom later on found gainful
employment.
It was also during this decade that Association's membership crossed
the 1000 mark.
