Education
& Training
Education & Training
Sunday School has been operating since 1994. The emphasis is on
teaching language. Social customs, religious rituals of all religions
are explained, morals and ethics are taught, general
knowledge
is updated. In short attempt is made to broaden the horizon of
knowledge of the students and impart such knowledge that they
do not get from their text books and are unable to pick it up
from the day to day goings on in homes due to their deafness generated
communication barriers.
Evening classes for the adult deaf are conducted regularly.
Training is currently being imparted in typewriting-Hindi-English
on electronic as well as manual typewriters and Computer Operations.
Secretarial practices also form an important part of the training
process.
Library- Reading Room
Association has a well stocked library and books are lent out
for home reading
to
deaf as well as normal persons.
The reading room run by the Association subscribes to major National
News Papers and journals.
However, these facilities are grossly inadequate to meet the needs
of over 1333 members but financial crunch precludes augmenting
these facilities by the Association on its own. Funds are, therefore,
needed.
Celebrations
National days are celebrated and their significance explained.
Seminars & Conferences
Funds permitting, Seminars and Conferences are also organized
to focus attention on the issues facing the deaf as also to create
awareness about their problems and attainments to dispel age old
prejudice against the deaf.
Net working
Though Association has not been able to establish a networking
with the NGOs engaged in the welfare of the deaf because of clash
of personalities and egos, it has been successfully networking
with NGOs of cross disability and is an important member of the
Disabled Rights Group.
Activitism
Association is alive to the need of the deaf people and has been
playing an active role in meeting these needs and raising voice
against their neglect. It has been talking up matters concerned
with the deaf welfare with the Government and, acting as a pressure
group has been persuading the Government to attend to the needs
of the deaf, also for the implementation of the Persons with Disabilities
(Equal Opportunity, Protection of Rights and Full Participation)
Act 1995.
