Grant-in-aid
For the first time in its nearly four decade existence, Association
succeeded in obtaining grant-in-aid from the Ministry of Welfare,
Govt. of India for its welfare activities -in the year 1996. There
after, Association has been receiving an increasing amount of
grant-in-aid year after year but it still continues to be only
a fraction of expenditure actually incurred by it on its welfare
activities. Consequently, there is always a financial crunch,
and need for genaous help.
Association
now runs the following schemes for the welfare of the Deaf people
which are partially supported by Grant-in-Aid.
-
Socio-Economic
rehabilitation for the Deaf people.
- Education
& training services for the Deaf people.
- Library
and Reading room for the Deaf people.
Under
the first scheme, gainful employment is found for the Deaf people
and they are helped to solve their personal problem and assisted
in dealing with Govt. departments, local bodies etc.
"Education
and Training schemes enables Deaf peoples to empoer themselves
with useful information and aquire skills with which they can
find a paying job.
Association
has been running a Library and Reading Room almost since its inception.
Library has more than 3000 volumes and in the Reading Room major
national daily papers and well known priodicals are made available
to the Deaf people.
However,
the existing facilities fall short of needs and can not cater
to the needs of Association's over 1330 members and needs to be
augmented but financial crunch precludes this possibility.
