NATIONAL SEMINAR - Golden
Jublee Celebrations
By
normal standards and practices, the Golden Jubilee of the Association
should
have
been celebrated in the year 2000 on completion of 50 years.
However, due to national calamities during 2000 and 2001 ( Kargil
war and Gujarat Earthquake), the celebrations were postponed.
The funds ear-marked for the purpose were donated to the Prime
Minister's Relief Fund.
It
was, therefore, only in October 2002 that Association could
celebrate its Golden Jubilee, the success of which can be attributed
to the efforts of Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy who took over as Chairman
after the resignation of Dr. Bansi Dhar.
As a part of Golden Jubilee celebrations the Association organised
Apart
from a large population of the local deaf, fraternal delegates
from all over India participated. The National Seminar was largely
attended by educators of the deaf, representatives of NGOs working
for the deaf and Professors from Jawahar Lal Nehru University,
Delhi University, Roorkee University and Head of Deptt. from
National Open School.
Recommendations
of
the
Seminar have been sent to the government and their implementation
is now awaited. When this is done, conditions of deaf, particularly
in the fields of education, training and rehabilitation, will
improve significantly.
National
Mime & Magic Competition was an unqualified success. Nearly
a dozen troupes from across the country participated. Top honors
went to Tamil Nadu.
