NATIONAL SEMINAR -
Golden Jublee Celebrations

By normal standards and practices, the Golden Jubilee of the Association should have been celebrated in the year 2000 on completion of 50 years. However, due to national calamities during 2000 and 2001 ( Kargil war and Gujarat Earthquake), the celebrations were postponed. The funds ear-marked for the purpose were donated to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

It was, therefore, only in October 2002 that Association could celebrate its Golden Jubilee, the success of which can be attributed to the efforts of Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy who took over as Chairman after the resignation of Dr. Bansi Dhar.

As a part of Golden Jubilee celebrations the Association organised

  • Three day National Seminar on Improving Linguistic Skills of the Deaf for Enhanced Employment.
  • National Mime & Magic Competition.
  • National Level Ms Deaf India Contest.

Apart from a large population of the local deaf, fraternal delegates from all over India participated. The National Seminar was largely attended by educators of the deaf, representatives of NGOs working for the deaf and Professors from Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Delhi University, Roorkee University and Head of Deptt. from National Open School.

Recommendations of the Seminar have been sent to the government and their implementation is now awaited. When this is done, conditions of deaf, particularly in the fields of education, training and rehabilitation, will improve significantly.

National Mime & Magic Competition was an unqualified success. Nearly a dozen troupes from across the country participated. Top honors went to Tamil Nadu.
